Do You Have the Stones?
There are plenty of things that we can bring from 2021 into the new year. Hopefully an abundance of good things that happened and unfortunately likely too many negatives. With the new year brings new choices and we choose what we carry forward.
In Joshua chapter 4 we see a great leader guiding the people into the Promised Land. Upon instruction the priests choose twelve stones from the Jordan river to create a memorial. I love how these stones were huge, which seems appropriate considering their meaning. To remember their Journey, who God is, His promises and a reminder to tell the next generation. They had the stones.
What are your stones? What has God done in your life during 2021? Maybe it was a challenge, like the wilderness for Joshua, but you overcame it. Perhaps it was a provision, like the manna from Heaven, that came to you as you needed and unearned. Is your stone a freedom from something that tried to keep you in bondage? Do you have the stones?
Joshua had plenty of negative experiences which included having to be in the wilderness for 40 years because others didn’t agree with him. However, I believe that this great leader wanted to focus on moving forward to what God had rather than focussing on the past. Better to build a memorial of stones rather than trip over them on the journey.

'We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then you can tell them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord ’s Covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.” ' Joshua 4:6-7 https://my.bible.com/bible/116/JOS.4.6-7
