Fish Out of Water.
When my girls were younger they had pet goldfish. It was nice to watch them swim around in a habitat they were designed for. The fish often radiated peace as they gracefully moved around the water. Until it was time to clean the tank and the fish had to be removed temporarily.
As the fish would flip flop around in the catchers net I could only imagine the complaints it would have. The lack of the fish’s necessary environment for survival would definitely be one. The very thing surrounding the fish on a constant basis in abundance would be the thing of it’s focus as the water became scarce.
Humans can be much like a goldfish out of water. We flip flop around complaining about our lack of time as if it was water to the fish. In our case, we are still always surrounded by time while we also know that it is a limited resource. Do you have a common phrase that you repeat about time?
No time for that.
Found some time.
Quality time.
Lost track of time.
Time flies.
Not enough time.
What if God did not intend for us to experience time as we do now. Some of that might be how we treat time, but I’m referring to our limitation of time. What if we could change how we thought about time? How would your life be different if you had an abundance of time? How would decisions be different with the thoughts of eternity in mind?
“We live in time, but are destined for eternity.”
